HomeTCA History

In 1979 Craig Main and William H. Clower began discussing the formation of an organization in San Antonio that would cater to Corvette owners. Together they designed flyers and distributed them to friends. Eight people attended the first meeting on July 7, 1979, at Landa Park in New Braunfels. Club records show that Jim and Diana Farrar, Robert and Carol Bates, Craig Main, William Clower, and Kathy Karlstadt were the first members. Craig Main served as the club’s first president and Robert Bates as the first treasurer.

The original name of the club was the South Texas Corvette Association. In 1982, it was officially changed to the Texas Corvette Association. There have been 35 TCA presidents.

As early as 1983 the club supported local San Antonio charities such as Girlsville, the San Antonio Children’s Shelter, St. Joseph’s Shelter and the Assistance League of San Antonio. In 2000, Bernie Jensen and Dan Martin established a car show as the club’s annual charitable fundraising event. St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, now SJRC Texas, has been the recipient of the car show’s proceeds since then, which reached a record high of $90,000 in 2009. In 2015, then President Glen Leonard modernized the TCA logo. After much discussion, the design was approved by the total membership in 2016.

TCA membership is currently more than 300, although none of the original members belong to the club. Now in 2024, our members still promote Corvette enthusiasm, plan road trips and driving tours, support local charities and the National Corvette Museum, hold the Open Car Show annually in Boerne, Texas, and attend meetings and social gatherings throughout the year.
